At the import stage the subdivision of the novel into 6 chapters has been respected.

The Correspondences function, which analyses the similarities/differences between the contents of the various chapters, demonstrates that the "development" of the novel is almost linear along the horizontal axis of the following graph.

The contents of the opening chapters (left-hand side of the graph) are seen to be "opposite" to the closing chapters (right-hand side of the graph)..

The horizontal axis - on to which the various chapters have been projected - is the first factor to be extracted by analysing the correspondences.

To help interpret this, T-LAB automatically produces tables showing the words and parts of the corpus characteristic of the (-) and (+) polarities, or of the left-right, high-low contrasts.

As you can see,

- the left-hand pole (-) is made up of two chapters: the first (Ch 1) and the second (Ch 2)

- the right-hand pole (+) consists of the sixth (Ch 6) and the fifth (Ch 5) chapters.

Some contrasts between key-words:

- office/harbour/room vs deck/sail/poop/ship
- action/job vs sleep/silence
- white vs darkness
